Regular bath times are a must, especially after a long day at work or on a cozy weekend morning. Apart from relaxation, baths can also bring numerous benefits to your physical and mental health. When combined with the ideal bath salts, your me-time can become a whole therapy for your body. Here’s how!
What Are the Benefits of Bath Salts?
Bath salts including Epsom salts, sea salts, and Himalayan salts pack your system with essential minerals and relieve joint and muscle pain. They also significantly improve the strength of our muscles and detoxify the largest organ in our body, the skin.
Epsom Salts for Sensitive Skin and Sore Muscles
Epsom salts contain magnesium sulfate that can relax the muscles, reduce inflammation, and improve sleep.
You’ll need:
- 1 cup Epsom salt
- ½ cup dry oatmeal (It helps reduce itching and redness.)
- 10-15 drops of rose essential oil (It contains antioxidants and hydrates the skin.)
Mix everything in a bowl and use about ½ cup to 1 cup per bath, leaving it to dissolve first. It will calm both your mind and body.
Dead Sea Salt for Rashy Skin
Dead Sea salt has a high concentration of minerals such as magnesium, calcium, potassium, and bromide. It is commonly used to fight psoriasis, eczema, and arthritis.
Here’s what you need:
- 1 cup Dead Sea salt
- 2½ Tbs. baking soda (It helps with sunburns, rashes, or itching.)
- 10-12 drops of lavender essential oil (It can help reduce stress and anxiety.)
Mix the Dead Sea salt and baking soda first, and then add the drops of lavender essential oil. Pour into your bath and enjoy.
Himalayan Salt for Very Dry Skin
Himalayan salt is rich in minerals that help balance systemic pH. Plus, Himalayan salt can serve as a natural exfoliant and remove dead cells for smoother skin.
You’ll need the following ingredients:
- ½ cup Himalayan salt
- 15 drops of your favorite essential oil
- 2 Tbs. almond oil (It helps reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks.)
Stir everything together and use ½ cup per bath.
Grey Bath Salts for Overall Detox
Grey bath salts might be less popular, but their natural properties make them a perfect add-in. They are hand-harvested in Guérande, France, and are rich in calcium, potassium, copper, zinc, and iron.
You’ll need:
- ¼ cup French grey bath salt
- ½ cup Epsom salt
- 1 Tbs. kaolin clay
- 2 Tbs. jojoba or sweet almond oil
- 6 drops of lavender oil
- 4 drops of tea tree oil
Mix the salts and clay in a bowl. Then, take a small glass container and combine the essential oils and jojoba or sweet almond oil. Add the oils to the dry ingredients and mix well. Pour the blend into your bath while it’s still warm, and sit there for about 20-30 minutes. Have a glass of water afterward to hydrate your body. Oh, and enjoy the bath!
